Thanks for these memories. We lived in Bethel for many years beginning in 1968. The Book Cache was my favorite place to go on those rare trips to Anchorage back in the day. Great Memories!!
Michael - We can imagine how the Book Cache would be a treat when coming to Anchorage from your home in Bethel. Could you order books from the Book Cache when you were in Bethel?
Thanks for the memories! I certainly remember Providence Hospital and the Drive-in with Ron Moore. I always enjoy your postings. I grew up there from 1949, graduated from high school at East High in 1967, and even got married up there. My husband went into the Army to become a helicopter pilot. He flew in Vietnam, later earned his fixed-wing license, flew for the Air Force, and eventually retired from Boeing as a flight instructor, flying all over the world to teach others to fly Boeing aircraft. I have all your emails saved on my computer so I can go back and revisit!! Thank you for all the time and energy you put into this.
Diana - thank you so much for your kind words. Memories are what it’s all about. By the way, you don’t have to save each edition on your computer. You can visit the entire Anchorage Memories Club library any time you want to. Just go to http://anchoragememoriesclub.com If you get a sign up page, just look for “Show me the memories” and click on that. You can see every edition. Thank you, Mike
I wasn't born at old Providence but I worked there in the early 1960s when it was St. Mary's Residence, a nursing home. Wonderful old building full of history. I was so sorry to see it torn down.

I’m sure you could have but I never thought about that at that age… lol

Jackie - Yes, the old Providence hospital building was full of memories. Was the St. Mary’s nursing home a good place to work?
I thought so! Interesting people, I learned a lot, and I loved that building!
